Message From Your Chapter President
Hello Freeport ABATE
First, I must recognize Alan “Ice” Wallshschlaeger. We lost Ice on December 27th. For those who didn't know Ice, he was Blaze's other half. We lost Blaze earlier last year. If you didn't know Blaze or Ice, you missed out on knowing a couple of true Freedom Fighters. Not to mention Silvia Koester who we also lost last year. We miss them all.
Many of us were at the State Seminar in January. Thanks to all who attended and thanks to Freeport Chapter for donating generously. We received many certificates for the work we did in 2017. Great job everyone! None of us can do it alone. We were able to support the State Office, ABATEPAC, land FEDPAC.
Coming up on March 24 is Freeport ABATE's 32nd anniversary party. We are the 3rd oldest chapter in the state and one of the most active and respected. This comes from 32 years of hard work. Come out to the Freeport Moose Lodge and help us celebrate. We will be doing silent auction, 50/50, bake sale, and also the white elephant thing again. It was such a hit at Christmas that everyone wants to do it again. I must admit, we had a lot of fun with it. All of this plus we'll have dinner, what a bonus! See the flyer somewhere in this newsletter.
May will also be a busy month. May 4th will be the Run To The Capital for the Safety and Awareness Rally (formerly know as the Helmet Rally).
The following weekend, May 12 will be the Freeport ABATE's Memorial Run. This run honors all of the Freeport members that we have lost over the years. Sadly, the list is too long and keep getting longer. I'll be there, I hope you are too.
It's been a long, cold and finally a snowy winter. Soon it will be time to ride again. Make sure the bikes are safe and ready to go.
If you don't get my e-mails and want to be on my list, just let me know at email@example.com.
Can't wait to see you all.
Our monthly meetings are the 3rd Sunday of every month with the exception of July. During the fall through spring months, we meet at Logan's Bar & Grill in Freeport Illinois. June through September we meet at the Pecatonica Wetlands about a mile north and west of Pecatonica Illinois. Meetings start at 12:30 sharp and we try to not let them go longer than two hours. We cover a lot of information at our meetings and encourage you to join us. Families are welcome and encouraged to attend our August family picnic meeting. Children are most welcome and we have special activities to keep them occupied during the meeting. Safety, Education and Legislation are all key initiatives of ABATE. We encourage all members and non-members alike to ride safely. Please read our mission statement.
