Welcome to Westgate ABATE A Motorcycle Rights Organization
Visitors are welcome at our meetings (see the Calendar for more information). A non-smoking policy had been adopted for the meetings, it appears the State of Illinois' new non-smoking law has made that permanent.

Not sure of what A.B.A.T.E. is about? Here is some information taken from the
A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois website...
Mission Statement
The Mission of A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois is to
preserve the universal right to a safe,
unrestricted, motorcycling environment.
A.B.A.T.E. OF ILLINOIS is a neutral non-profit organization that allows all riders
to unite in ABrotherhood Aimed Toward
Education. A.B.A.T.E. works to safeguard our motorcycling rights, while
allowing us to be individuals with different views. This is being accomplished
though motorcycle safety education programs, public awareness programs, and
other programs designed to prevent injury or fatal accidents to motorcyclists.
A.B.A.T.E. OF ILLINOIS' main concern is putting motorcycle legislation in its proper
perspective. A.B.A.T.E. OF ILLINOIS keeps the legislature informed of our position
on legislation that is unfair or discriminatory towards motorcyclists. A.B.A.T.E. OF
ILLINOIS works closely with motorcycle rights organizations across the nation to
stop discriminatory legislation aimed at all motorcyclists.
A Brotherhood Aimed Toward Education
A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois, Inc. is organized for charitable, educational, civic, benevolent, social,
and athletic purposes, including for such purposes as, the promotion of motorcycle use,
acceptance, safety and enjoyment. Said purposes include promoting the motorcycling
interests of the corporation's members and affiliates. Said corporation is further organized
to undertake such interaction, including lobbying and litigation support, with various
governmental bodies as may be necessary or desirable to promote the motor cycling
interests of the corporation's members and affiliates.
So says the legalese at the beginning of our bylaws, but what does it really mean?
Charitable and benevolent purposes?
Yes, A.B.A.T.E. Chapters raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for these purposes every
year!
Social and athletic purposes?
Yes, as a State Organization, and Chapters we sponsor many social, and motorcycle related
athletic events which are held every year!
Educational and Safety/Civic/Lobbying purposes?
Not just yes, but HELL YES! These tend to run together. We spend more time and money on
our legislative agenda, and on safety and education than on any other areas which we cover.
In these areas we spend a whole lot of time educating our members on safe riding practices.
We spend a bunch of time and money going to High School Driver's Education courses,
Senior Citizens groups, and other "Civic Organizations" to emphasize motorcycle awareness!
In the lobbying area, we also educate. We educate our membership how important it is to be registered, and vote! We educate our members on the proper way to communicate with their legislators. We educate legislators, at all levels, that anti-motorcycle and anti-motorcycling
legislation is unacceptable! In order to back up this view, we spend a lot of time and money
backing pro-motorcycling candidates!
