Minutes for the Month of March

Hi Big River,

We had the chapter meeting at the VFW in Savanna March 14th. Jim called the meeting to order at 12:37. There were 24 members and one guest present. We recited the pledge and held a moment of silence for our fallen brothers and sisters. There was a motion to pass on the reading of secretary’s minutes. Jim gave the treasurer’s report in Nira’s absence. Mike gave the VP report. He said they are getting around the area to get people signed up for supporting businesses. He and Jim could not stress enough the role of a supporting business—it is support motorcycle rights. Make sure anyone who signs up a supporting business to not make any promises about how many events or runs may stop there. Tell the business what it is from the get-go.

Legislative: Senator Trotter has a bill on the floor that could come to a vote this week. They are trying to pass a bill that would make it mandatory for anyone under 18 to have to wear a helmet. Senator Silverstein is working on a bill for mandatory bicycle helmets. The next step would be motorcycle helmets. Everyone please make calls to your senate offices. Contact Jim for the numbers.

Jeff and Judy were not present to give Safety and Education. Kelly passed the PAC can and gave the PAC report. AT present we have $248. They will take that down to the next state meeting. Tiny gave the membership report. We are holding at 148. Jim interjected that he sent off a bunch of new memberships, and renewals too.

Old business: Nick and Amy Promens chenkel resigned their offices, so we need someone to step up and take over. Nira and Animal have agreed to do the treasurer’s position on a temporary basis. Shawn Hovious agreed to take over the Events. Two wheel trauma is set for April 3rd. This will be held at Genesis in the Quad Cities. There will a $25 fee this year, but this includes your lunch and I believe six hours of CEU’s for anyone who needs them. Contact Jim w/any questions. We still have several varieties of shirts and sweatshirts available. It was also decided to order more shirts, since a lot of sizes sold out quickly.

Under new business. Shawn and Animal have gotten around to a lot of businesses for the Summer Fun Run. At present we have 76 paid up and another 16 who have agreed to send the money along. Bringing the total to 92. The Wild Rose Casino and Resort has offered to become an event sponsor for Big River. Besides a monetary donation, We will be getting a package from them that will include banners, posters and shirts. A big thank-you to them for the help. The Big River Rendezvous date is set for September 25th. We are still planning on a Hog Roast to be held at the OUTPOST may 15th. This will include a bike show and music. More on this in upcoming letters.

This month it is just to say thanks to all the members that give their time and support each month. That is why Big River has been such a success. I want to thank everyone that turned out for the chili/broomstick tournament. Thank you to Brandon Huycke and Denise Jensen who were our two winners . Also Jeff Snyder for donating over $50 to our PAC fund. That is why we are here—TO PROTECT OUR MOTORCYCLE RIGHTS!!! I also want to thank Shawn Hovious and Animal for their amazing work at getting the stops to start the Big River Summer Fun Run. They have gotten almost 90 businesses in less than six weeks. Until next month—RIDE SAFE & RIDE FREE!!! OZZY
