Message From Your Chapter President

Blaze from State Party 2004.

Hello Freeprt ABATE!

As many of you know, Blaze Elliot has passed away. Blaze was a long time member of Freeport ABATE. She was our Safety and Ed instructor for many years.. She was a true Freedom Fighter. There will be a celebration of life for Blaze at a later date. I will let you know when that is, but it appears it will be in July. Please try to attend as she is missed by all who knew her. Our prayers go out to her family.

Our prayers also go out to our members who are fighting battles of their own. And sadly, there are way too many to list. Please answer the call if we are called upon. We all need some help and support at some time. We are all brothers and sisters and a real family.

On May 13 we will be having our Freeport Chapter Memorial Run. This run is to pay our respects to all of our lost members. We've lost a couple of members over the past year, and many members over the past several years. Sign up is at Freeport Cycle and Machine from 11-noon. I hope to see everyone there.

On July 29 we are helping to sponsor the Pearl City Boy Scout Memorial Run in memory of our son Leo Gerke. Leo was a Freeport ABATE member and also an Eagle Scout. I would really like the chapter's support at this event.

Flyers for all events are at our chapter meetings and on the Freeport ABATE website, as well as in this newsletter.

I believe we are officially in riding season as even I have taken my bike out for a ride. Even though the season is young, there have already been many motorcycle fatalities. We can reduce that number by riding safe and riding smart. It's not always the other guy's fault. We really have to take responsiblity for our own actions too. I'm just as guilty as anyone but hopefully I'm getting a little older and wiser. Definitely older.

Our May meeting is still at Logan's, while our June, August, and September meetings will be at the Pecatonica Wetlands. We are doing our Bike Games Event on the July meeting date as we have for the past few years. Hope to see you all at the meetings and upcoming events.

Ride safe! Ride free! JUST RIDE!!

Gerk

Our monthly meetings are the 3rd Sunday of every month with the exception of July. During the fall through spring months, we meet at Logan's Bar & Grill in Freeport Illinois. June through September we meet at the Pecatonica Wetlands about a mile north and west of Pecatonica Illinois. Meetings start at 12:30 sharp and we try to not let them go longer than two hours. We cover a lot of information at our meetings and encourage you to join us. Families are welcome and encouraged to attend our August family picnic meeting. Children are most welcome and we have special activities to keep them occupied during the meeting. Safety, Education and Legislation are all key initiatives of ABATE. We encourage all members and non-members alike to ride safely. Please read our mission statement.
