Things are heating up in Springfield

Rep Dan Beiser has moved HB0930 and it is on the Calendar for 2nd reading in the House and the ISP want to talk. Maybe we are in the position to get more out of them??

Rep Mary Flowers is planning on moving her HB0285 and HB0290. One bill would put helmets on everyone 26 and under and the other would put them on everyone. When they move I will let you know!

The best way to kill something is to kill it before it raises its ugly head. So tell your state legislators that we will oppose any bill that will authorize E-15 blend gasoline. The link below will give you your State Reps and their ph #'s

Last year HB1979, a bill to pave the way for E-15 sales in this state, was held back by the sponsor due to opposition from several organizations including ABATE of Illinois. Your BOD voted to oppose the use of E-15 until further independent testing is done to approve it for motorcycles. The AMA, MRF, US Coast Guard, Chrysler, G.M. and Toyota have all voiced their concerns and ask that it not be approved for sale till more testing is done. It is also rough on all gasoline powered hand tools.

Remember that NO motorcycles were tested for use of E-15 and NO motorcycles were designed to use E-15. We want more and better testing on the effects of using E-15 in our motorcycles both old and new and all models.

When you talk to your state legislators tell them it needs more testing and there are bills in the US Congress on this subject such as HR3199 and HR748 which would prevent the sale of E-15 in certain vehicles, and the Letter from GM Chrysler and Toyota criticizing the EPA on its plan to allow its use. The letter is in the attachment.

Calls do work!

Chrysler, GM, Toyota criticize EPA's ethanol-blend fuel proposal
July 5, 2011 - 2:04 pm ET

WASHINGTON (Bloomberg) -- Automakers including Chrysler Group LLC, General Motors Co. and Toyota Motor Corp. criticized an EPA plan to allow gasoline containing up to 15 percent ethanol to be used in cars and trucks in the U.S., saying it may void warranties.

Nine automakers in letters released today that were sent to U.S. Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., said the EPA plan announced last week to sell so-called E15 fuel may damage engines and fuel-supply systems.

The EPA last week announced an orange and black label to be used at pumps selling blends containing 15 percent ethanol.

"While Chrysler has been a strong advocate of renewable fuels, we have concerns about the potential harmful effects of E15 in engines and fuel systems that were not designed for use of that fuel," Jody Trapasso, Chrysler's senior vice president of external affairs, wrote in a June 23 letter to Sensenbrenner, vice chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.

The EPA, under Clean Air Act waivers, has said it will allow E15 to be sold for use in cars and light trucks as old as model year 2001.
