Subject: Abate of Illinois ~ legislative update 2/16/06

Sorry for being late but I believe I have the last anyone can do with these
bills except for HB934

We will keep watching

What happened to our bills?

·    Senator Cullerton did not call SB2439 the lane splitting helmet bill.  He
new he did not have one yes vote on the Senate Transportation Committee.
Thank you to everyone who called.

·    SB2776 ~ Discrimination~ was sent to Executive committee, John Cullerton
Vice Chairperson, to die.  Senate Leadership was not sure how to handle it
this being an election year.  We had opposition from the Illinois Retail
Merchants Association.  We will reintroduce it in the fall.  Even had a
couple of people on the Republican side having problems with it.

·    SB2759 ~ Punitive damages~ Senator Debbie Halvorson reintroduced this
bill.  It made it out of Rules and into Transportation before someone in
leadership read it.  Or maybe someone from Chicago or the Illinois Municipal
League finally read it.

·    HB934 ~ Seizure ~ This is the only bill we still have active as of 2/15/06
we are trying to make it illegal for a municipality to confiscate a
motorcycle because of a muffler violation

That is where our bills stand
