Voter Registration
ABATE of Illinois encourages all its memebers to register to vote. The State of Illinois makes voter registration easy and accessable. There are very few limitations on who, where, and when you may register. For example some states prohibit anyone with a felony conviction from registering to vote, Illinois does not. Registration is open year round except: During the 27-day period just prior to an election and During the 2 days after such election (1 day after in Chicago) Many government offices, labor groups and civic organizations can register you to vote. You may even be able to register through your local ABATE chapter.
For additional information on registering to vote and what to if you have moved or had a name change see this web page on Voter Registration from the State Board of Elections.
Becoming a Deputy Voter Registrar
ABATE
of Illinois is looking for volunteers to become Deputy Voter Registrars.
We are a "Certified Bona Fide Civic Organization" for this purpose. Chapter representatives should contact the state office for information on securing the required documentation.
For details see these voter registration and deputy registrar related downloads form the State Board of Elections.
In some instances local election authorities have been willing to provide training and appoint ABATE members as deputy registrars at ABATE chapter meetings. Contact your County Election Authority for additional information and assistance.
