Campaign Contributions The majority of campaign contributions made by ABATE PAC go to candidates for the state legislature. We also contribute to the campaigns of some candidates to constitutional offices. In some very rare instances, we have contributed in county and municipal elections. Generally speaking, we make contributions to individual candidates and not political parties. The State Legislature The Illinois General Assembly (state legislature) is composed of a 59 member Senate and a 118 member House of Representatives. State level elections are held in even numbered years. Representatives serve two-year terms and are elected every two years. Senate districts are divided into three groups. One or two of these groups are elected every two years for either a two or four-year term. In other words, there are some senate races in every two-year election cycle. Constitutional Offices The Illinois Executive Branch is made up of constitutional officers who are elected once every four years. Constitutional officers include Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Comptroller, and Attorney General. Off Years In off years, or years when state level elections are not being held, ABATE PAC money is primarily spent purchasing tickets to campaign fundraisers. The tickets are then distributed to ABATE members living in the candidates' district. Not only are we contributing to campaigns, we are providing valuable face time with candidates, legislators and other elected officials to ABATE members. Many of which would not otherwise have the opportunity. Election Years In years when state level elections are being held, money spent purchasing fundraiser tickets for those in uncontested races is very limited. In election years, we turn our focus on the campaigns of our friends in contested races.
